The following is a sample from the Federal Way police log:
Man defrauded of $400: At 10:42 a.m. on Oct. 10 in the 2200 block of South Star Lake Road, a victim reported he was contacted by Advance America via text message. The “company” offered him a loan if he cashed a $400 check and sent the money back. The victim complied. After this, the suspects asked for $1,000 in iTunes gift cards, to which the victim again complied. However, he became suspicious and reported the fraud. He wasn’t able to get a refund on the gift cards but never sent them. Police determined his total loss was $400.
Suspects steal $620 of items from Petco: At 4:03 p.m. on Oct. 10 at 31419 Pacific Highway S., employees at Petco reported four young men and one younger woman shoplifted $620 worth of items. They fled in a white sedan, and struck a parked car in the parking lot. Police said the store doesn’t have video surveillance and there are no suspects at this time.
Man caught smoking meth: At 6:33 p.m. on Oct. 10 in the 3900 block of Southwest 328th Street, officers arrested three people after doing a “routine check” on a house that code enforcement posted “no occupancy due to power shutoff.” One suspect was arrested for smoking methamphetamine, another was arrested on a King County Sheriff’s Office warrant and the third, the homeowner, was arrested for “unlawful use of a building for drug purposes” and trespass, and is being investigated with a gang unit. According to the city, no one has been allowed inside the house since Oct. 5.
Woman drives into bookstore: At 9:28 p.m. on Oct. 10 at 31325 Pacific Highway S., a woman suffering from a seizure drove into the Barnes & Noble storefront. The front of her vehicle went through its glass window. South King Fire and Rescue officials evaluated her, as did police, and she was transported to St. Francis Hospital while her vehicle was impounded. There was no indication of drug or alcohol abuse.
Incoherent woman committed: At 7:40 a.m. on Oct. 11 in the 2800 block of Military Road South, a woman was involuntarily committed to St. Francis Hospital after police found her passed out, face down on the ground near a sidewalk. She smelled strongly of alcohol and her speech was slurred. She told officers she doesn’t know where she is or where she lives. An anonymous acquaintance told police she had been drinking for six hours. Police also found two empty Four Loco cans and pills scattered around her.
Police trespass homeless campers: At 12:28 p.m. on Oct. 11 in the 34900 block of 1st Avenue South, the city’s Surface Water Management department told police that seven “transient camps” were in a wetland reserve area. Police told two suspects to “move along” and noted they had been told before and made aware of available resources multiple times in the past.
Man on home arrest for selling drugs makes allegations: At 12:32 p.m. on Oct. 11 in the 2400 block of Southwest 333rd Street, a man called police to report the mother of his children is selling methamphetamine and heroin out of a window at his parent’s house. He told dispatch he’s calling so he can get custody of his children. The man is currently on home detention for selling illegal narcotics. The man wanted the case documented for informational purposes, but asked if police could send him the report. He was told to retain an attorney for his custody issues.
High school student caught smoking marijuana: At 10:24 a.m. on Oct. 12 at 31600 30th Avenue Southwest, a Decatur High School student was caught smoking marijuana in her car. She turned over a glass pipe and some marijuana to an officer and was taken inside the school for her father to take her home.
Suspects clip school portables’ power supply: At 9:40 a.m. on Oct. 12 at 34600 12th Avenue Southwest, Sherwood Forest Elementary staff reported power failure to the outside portable classrooms. The custodian and maintenance crew found electrical wiring was cut and removed from an underground vault. An electrical repair crew was already repairing the wires when police arrived. Officers checked video surveillance and saw four suspects removing the wires at about 1 a.m. that day. The damage is estimated to cost $1,500.
Naked man in mud committed: At 7:46 a.m. on Oct. 13 in the 1200 block of South 336th Street, a man was involuntarily committed to St. Francis Hospital for drug use and bizarre behavior. Citizens reported the man was sitting in the mud on the side of the road, unclothed, exposing himself and acting strangely. An officer spoke to the suspect who “appeared to be experiencing a reaction” to methamphetamine. The officer witnessed the man hit himself, growl, scream, and “contort” his face and body repeatedly for 30 minutes. He couldn’t tell the officer what city he was in and appeared not to care for his own health, as he was sitting in the rain in 50-degree weather.
Suspects steal Wild Waves’ Halloween decorations: At 1:52 a.m. on Oct. 14 at 36201 Enchanted Parkway South, a security guard at Wild Waves reported someone stole two small fog machines from the “Haunted Trail” in the “Whispering Pines” park area. The guard said he saw the machines the day before. No other property was damaged.
Burglar steals $30,000 of silver: At 4:30 a.m. on Oct. 14 in the 1100 block of Southwest 311th Court, an unknown suspect burglarized a victim’s residence by entering through the back kitchen window. The suspect took $30,000 worth of silver, a laptop and other belongings.
Corrections officer discovers children alone: At 10:55 p.m. on Oct. 14 in the 35700 block of 16th Avenue South, a corrections officer looking for a man went to his sister’s house, only to discover two children ages 7 and 9 home alone. The officer said the children appeared healthy and un-threatened. Officers contacted Child Protective Services who said children can be left home alone as young as 8 years old. The police report was made for informational purposes only.
Man alleges serious, unfounded assault: At 12:11 a.m. on Oct. 15 in the 35030 Enchanted Parkway S., an anonymous caller reported witnessing two people assault a victim with a baseball bat, place him/her in the trunk of a green 1990s Honda and that one of the suspects had a gun. This all allegedly happened in the Olive Garden parking lot. Officers contacted several restaurant employees who were in the parking lot and all said they hadn’t seen the assault.
Woman shot in Seattle: At 4:06 p.m. on Oct. 16 in the 34500 block of 9th Avenue South, police were called to St. Francis Hospital to a report of a female with a gunshot wound to her left leg. The female said the incident occurred somewhere at a party in Seattle.
