Woman attempts to kidnap two children left unattended in vehicle in Federal Way

Two young girls, sisters who are ages 1 and 5, were temporarily kidnapped by a woman Friday evening in Federal Way.

According to information provided by the Federal Way Police Department (FWPD), the children had been momentarily left unattended in their mother’s vehicle in the 33000 block of Pacific Highway S. around 5:24 p.m., when the suspect entered the vehicle and fled the area.

The 49-year-old woman, who is unknown to the mother, drove the vehicle to the vicinity of the Riverbend Golf Course in Kent, where, according to FWPD, the vehicle became inoperable for reasons unknown.

According to information provided by FWPD, the suspect apparently attempted to resist arrest, resulting in an injury to her hand, which required treatment at St. Francis Hospital.

The suspect is reported as having invoked her right to remain silent, and will be booked at the King County Jail on two charges of kidnapping, taking a motor vehicle without permission, reckless endangerment and hit and run.
