A 48-year-old Seattle man is currently in jail after allegedly raping a female patient at St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way on April 25.

The King County Prosecutor’s office has filed second-degree rape charges against Eddie L. Greadington on Thursday. Greadington is being held on $300,000 bail and will be arraigned May 12, according to Dan Donahoe, spokesman for the prosecutor’s office.

Greadington and the victim, whom he had never met, were both voluntary patients receiving mental health care at St. Francis, according to charging papers.

“The defendant presents a danger to commit a similar violent offense if released,” the document states. “He forcibly raped another patient after threatening to seriously injure her.”

At 11:28 p.m. April 25, an administrator at the hospital called Federal Way police to report that Greadington had sexually assaulted the woman in the mental health group room at St. Francis.

Greadington approached the woman at 8 p.m. and asked her to play “truth or dare,” charging documents state. The woman said “no” and Greadington then told her he hadn’t had sex for eight months. The woman then attempted to leave the room, but he was blocking the door.

Greadington then forcibly grabbed the woman by the hair and told her that if she did not “go to his room, he would pull out her artery in her neck,” according to documents. The woman has a surgical repair to a neck artery due to an injury, which was covered with a bandage and easily accessible.

Greadington forced the woman into his room in the mental health unit, then raped the woman in the attached shower, according to documents.

After Greadington let the woman go, she cleaned herself and noticed she was bleeding from the sexual assault, the charging documents state. The woman stated that she was initially afraid to tell anyone and went to a group session, where Greadington came in and sat next to her.

According to documents, the woman stated this made her feel very afraid and she reported the incident an hour later to a counselor at the facility.

After the rape was reported, staff at St. Francis escorted the woman to the emergency room. The nurse on duty reported the injuries were consistent with her account of the incident.

According to documents, Greadington’s room was cleaned, including the bathroom, and bedding was changed prior to police arrival. Greadington was arrested at 2:45 a.m. April 26 after police talked to the woman.

According to charging documents, Greadington declined to comment on the allegations and later stated, “I want a lawyer.”

Greadington has a long rap sheet with prior convictions for unlawful imprisonment (1984), possessing stolen property (2006), attempting to elude (2006), taking a motor vehicle (2003), fourth-degree domestic violence assault (2009), and theft (2011). He also has three first-degree criminal trespass convictions (1986, 1991, 2007) and was arrested in Nevada for robbery in 1996, according to the charging papers.

The new charge against Greadington is the second alleged sexual assault to take place at St. Francis in the last six weeks.

A male nurse, Konstantin Kurkov, allegedly assaulted a 20-year-old woman on March 16 while she was at St. Francis for treatment of back pain. St. Francis officials have confirmed that Kurkov had been accused twice prior to this incident of inappropriate contact with patients.

The hospital has since terminated Kurkov, and his nursing license has been suspended. He is free on a $100,000 bond.

According to charging documents, Kurkov allegedly assaulted the patient after she came to the emergency room complaining of back pain. The assault allegedly took place while the patient and Kurkov were alone in an examination room.
