After her husband died in June, Lee Emory-Rosengreen, 70, left Arizona and drove for four days to Federal Way.

“I was all there by myself and I wanted to be with my family,” she said, noting that she intends to rent an apartment in Federal Way, where they live.

Emory-Rosengreen stopped at the Federal Way Super Eight Motel on Sunday.

But on Tuesday afternoon, the U-Haul she had rented from Arizona was stolen, along with the items she had moved. The thieves took all of her personal possessions, her furniture, clothes and an urn with her husband’s ashes.

Emory-Rosengreen still has her personal vehicle and her two cats and is looking for an apartment despite not having furniture.

“I’ve lived here before, 14-and-a-half years ago,” she said. “I’m just sick. My granddaughter is getting married this weekend and all I have is jeans and sandals.”

Emory-Rosengreen anticipates the robbers would have had to stop for gas at a gas station after stealing the vehicle because the moving truck only had about a quarter tank.

Although she’s contacted the moving truck’s company and had insurance on the truck, she’s not sure if insurance will cover her personal loss.

Two other moving truck thefts incidents have occurred in Federal Way this year.

On July 7, thieves stole a U-Haul from a fenced business in Federal Way and proceeded to ram the gate to get away. The next day on July 8, another U-Haul was stolen from the same business but was discovered in Everett. The suspect in that case was arrested and put in Snohomish County Jail.

Federal Way Police Department spokeswoman Cathy Schrock said another U-Haul was stolen in Seattle but ended up in Federal Way some time ago. The truck was empty except for an 800 pound piano. The victim had been a musician.
