Students interested in participating in the 2014-2015 session of the Washington Aerospace Scholars program must turn in their applications by Nov. 14.
Spots are limited to students who are high school juniors or at least 16 years of age, U.S. citizens, and residents of Washington state. Students should have an interest in and aptitude for science, technology, engineering and/or math and a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Students with a GPA below a 3.0 can apply for admission on a conditional basis, and will be upgraded to full status once adequate academic progress is shown.
Participants must also be able to access the internet at home, school, or a public library.
Phase One of the Washington Aerospace Scholars program consists of an online curriculum. Students who perform well on Phase One will have an opportunity to participate in Phase Two, a six-day summer residency hosted by The Museum of Flight in Seattle.
During the summer residency, participants will work with professional engineers on the design of a human mission to Mars. Summer residency participants will also receive briefings from experts, tour engineering facilities and compete in a variety of hands-on engineering challenges.
Washington state certified teachers are also invited to apply to participate in both of the program’s phases as online academic evaluators and summer residency academic facilitators.
