For the second year in a row, unknown vandals trashed Vince Stansbury’s Halloween decorations.

Stansbury discovered the damage Thursday morning in the front yard of his Federal Way home, located in the 32000 block of 6th Avenue SW. Overnight, someone ripped several styrofoam tombstones into pieces and smashed part of the fence.

Stansbury, whose fondness for Halloween extends back to childhood, has always enjoyed decking out his house to impress the neighborhood kids. As a result of the vandalism, Stansbury will not pass out candy or participate in this year’s Halloween.

“Maybe next year, we’ll see,” he said. “A lot of time, energy and money go into it. If the kids aren’t going to be grateful for it, why bother? I do it for them.”

Several neighbors stopped by to express their disappointment and offered to help clean up Thursday evening after Stansbury returned home from work. Those well-wishers included Steve Irwin, whose Halloween decorations on SW 325th Place were also damaged overnight.

“I’ve always been impressed with his yard every year,” Irwin said. “What do you do?”
