A Metro by T-Mobile store in Federal Way was broken into, resulting in $18,000 in damage.

At about 5:42 a.m. Sept. 27, an unidentified individual in a white van backed into Metro by T-Mobile at 34815 Pacific Hwy. S., #201, causing $18,000 in damage to the windows and the door. No items were taken, but a $50 bill was found at the scene, which officers took into evidence as found property, according to a Federal Way Police Department report obtained through a public records request.

The report said that at 6:32 a.m., a responding officer arrived at the scene and found a repairman hired by the owner attending to the smashed windows and damaged door. The report said that the left window of the storefront was shattered, and the door was latched but free-swinging.

The responding officer said in the report that he went inside the business and found that the back door, which led to a hallway connecting the other businesses attached to the building, was open. The officer checked to see if there was anyone inside the building or if there was any further damage, but he found none. He did find a $50 bill, which the owner said he did not leave there.

The owner showed police camera footage of a white van backing up to the window to break in, though the video was not clear enough to obtain the license plate. Following the window smashing, a single male suspect — though two can be seen in the video — entered and walked directly to the rear of the store. Once the rear door opened, the audible alarm was triggered. Shortly thereafter, the male walked out of the store and left in the van.

The responding repairman told the officer that he estimated repairing the damage would cost about $18,000.
