An Auburn woman involved in a high-speed chase and fatal crash July 26 was in serious condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
The Washington State Patrol is investigating the crash that killed 40-year-old Fife resident Douglas Simmons. The state patrol is awaiting an update on the medical condition of his passenger, a 42-year-old Holly Mattson of Oregon, as well as the Auburn driver, said spokesman Sgt. Freddy Williams.
The state patrol often investigates criminal collision cases. A blood-alcohol test has been sent to a lab for testing, Williams said.
At approximately 6:30 p.m. July 26, Federal Way police responded to a 911 report of a recklessly driven vehicle in the area of Pacific Highway South (Highway 99) and South 356th Street. When officers located the suspect vehicle and attempted to stop, utilizing their emergency lights and siren, the vehicle proceeded southbound on Highway 99 at speeds of nearly 80 mph, according to the state patrol.
A 36-year-old Auburn woman, who was driving a 1988 Honda Accord, approached the intersection at southbound Highway 99 and Porter Way in Milton. The Accord allegedly T-boned the victim’s vehicle, a Volkswagen Jetta, at a high rate of speed. The suspect is not being named by The Mirror until charges have been filed.
