The following is a sample of the Federal Way Police Department crime blotter:
Scary encounter: At 8:37 p.m. March 21 in the 1900 block of Southwest Campus Drive, a man called to report that an unknown male, who was driving an older model Ford Expedition, followed him to a teriyaki restaurant. He stated the suspect told him he could shoot the victim if he wanted to and opened the center console. The suspect didn’t produce a gun, but the victim indicated he feared for his life.
Not thinking straight: At 6:33 p.m. March 21 in the 30200 block of Ninth Avenue South, officers responded for a suspicious subject, whom they determined was under the influence of methamphetamine. The subject was escorted home, and then officers observed him get into a vehicle and attempt to drive away. The subject was stopped and arrested for having physical control of a vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol
Drugs in the parking lot: At 3:26 p.m. March 21, an officer was dispatched to the Barkley Ridge Apartments on Pacific Highway South after receiving a report of narcotics found in the parking lot. The officer contacted the reporting party and took possession of a small bag of what was suspected to be methamphetamine. The bag was taken to the police station, where it was weighed and submitted into evidence for destruction.
Weapon recovered: At 8:28 a.m. March 21 in the 31200 block of 12th Avenue Southwest, a person reported finding an airsoft/BB gun near the curb. The person was concerned for the public’s safety and was unsure if it was real, so she picked it up and submitted it to police. An officer was unable to find an owner, and the pistol was submitted into evidence for destruction.
Wrong number: At 1:15 p.m. March 20 in the 29900 block of First Place South, a female called 911 to report she received texts and a voice message requesting she stopped calling and that the caller knew where she lived. The female said she was not familiar with the number and never called it. She said she feared the unknown male might come to her home. An officer called the number and spoke to a male, who admitted to leaving the message and texts. He said he was trying to stop a person with that number from calling him. The officer explained the situation, and the male said he understood and had no intention of contacting the female. No direct threats were made, and no crime was committed.
Repeat offender: At 1:01 p.m. March 20 in the 30600 block of 12th Place Southwest, a person reported a neighbor’s dog entered their back yard by crawling underneath the fence. The dog owner retrieved the dog and brought it back. It was the third reported occurrence of the dog leaving its property. The owner was issued infractions for public nuisance, first-degree animal trespassing and unlicensed animal second degree.
Threatening message: At 11:19 a.m. March 20 at City Hall on Eighth Avenue South, it was reported at 5:07 a.m. an unknown male left a death threat on Federal Way Mayor Jim Ferrell’s voice mail.
Locker room assault: At 12:50 a.m. March 20 a woman reported her son was assaulted by a classmate in the locker room. The mother reported her son said another student approached him from behind and placed his hands around his neck, and her son almost lost consciousness. The mother reported she did not know who the suspect was except for his name. The officer advised the mother to contact the school’s administrators and report what had happened.
Not very comforting: At 6:05 p.m. March 19 police responded to the Federal Way Public Schools Educational Service Center on Eighth Avenue South in regard to a suspicious bag. Security located the bag and called 911. Upon arrival, the bomb squad was notified, and they responded. They determined it to be a suitcase with a bed comforter inside and disposed of it.
Sprayed in face: At 4:35 March 19 in the 33400 block of 21st Avenue Southwest, a man reported being sprayed in the face with an unknown substance, causing pain to his eye, after a road-rage incident.
Pot at school: At 1:14 p.m. March 19 at Thomas Jefferson High School, a school administrator recovered marijuana from a student while he was attending classes. In lieu of charges, the student received school discipline and was given a police warning. Later, his guardian was contacted and advised of the incident. The marijuana was photographed, tested and weighed in at 2.31 grams before booked into evidence for destruction.
Suspect arrested in stolen car: At 7:23 a.m. March 19 in the 33300 block of 23rd Avenue Southwest, while conducting extra patrol, police located an occupied stolen vehicle. A male subject was contacted and surrendered to police without incident. The vehicle was confirmed stolen and the suspect arrested. There was a shaved key jammed in the ignition. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
