The Twin Lakes Homeowners Association meeting on Dec. 10 failed to draw a quorum of residents. As a result, there was no vote on a proposal to double homeowners association dues to benefit Twin Lakes Golf and Country Club.
A vote was expected at Thursday’s HOA meeting. The meeting was moved to Decatur High School’s performing arts center, 2800 S.W. 320th St., to accommodate more people.
However, the meeting was 80 members short of a quorum, it was announced. At least 60 percent of residents must be present in person or by proxy in order to have a quorum and hold a vote. At Thursday’s meeting, 487 members were present along with 185 proxies, which adds up to 672 total present — 80 short of a quorum.
The HOA board will hold its next meeting Dec. 16 to decide the next step.
“If we decide to call another meeting, which we haven’t done yet, we only need 30 percent or half of the quorum required last night,” said Tom Moehlman, HOA board president. “It was a huge undertaking on our part to hold last night’s meeting.”
Jimme Schneider, president of the Twin Lakes Golf and Country Club board of trustees, said the club is waiting to see what the HOA board will do.
“That’s an awful lot of homeowners to come to a meeting of that sorts,” Schneider said. “In the meantime, the golf club needs to start being proactive in taking a look at what our alternatives are.”
