At the Math Fall Classic on Nov. 12, Thomas Jefferson High School students placed very well in the individual and team contests. The classic is designed to reward excellence in mathematics.
Middle school and high school students from around the state were invited to participate in this 20th annual State Mu Alpha Theta Math Contest known as the Math Fall Classic hosted at Thomas Jefferson High School. Approximately 100 total students participated in the classic.
The classic included both individual and team tests. One of the individual tests included 50 multiple choice problems with a 60-minute time limit. Another individual test included four open-ended response questions every four minutes with 10 rounds known as ciphering. The team test included 20 multiple choice questions with a 45 minute time limit. Up to four students were allowed to participate per team. No calculators were allowed for any of the tests, and the tests could cover any type of mathematical problem taught in grades 9–12.
This effort is in direct support of the district’s Strategic Plan Goal 4, Content Area Competence: Mastery of All Subjects.
