Saturday, Sept. 13, is the event of the year for Federal Way dog lovers.

Steel Lake Park will be packed with more than 100 dogs on Saturday for the city’s seventh annual K-9 Karnival. Dogs, dog owners and curious onlookers are invited to participate in several activities and check out vendor booths.

Doggie attire and toy vendors will come from throughout Federal Way and neighboring cities such as Kent and Auburn. There will also be veterinarians and dog-training businesses.

For the competitive canines, the event will include activities such as bobbing for tennis balls, a radar race and a bone hunt.

Owners can join in on the competition with an ice cream eating contest, where owners and dogs work together as a team to finish off ice cream before fellow competitors. Owners eat ice cream from Dixie cups while their furry friends are offered dog-friendly ice cream made of whey, provided by Three Dog Bakery in Seattle.

The event will conclude with a show where dogs can compete in categories including best dressed, happiest wag, most talkative, best trick, best kisser, best in show or most resembling their owner.

Event entry is $7 for the first dog and $5 for each additional dog. All dogs must be leashed.
