King County Councilman Pete von Reichbauer hosted Tacoma Mayor Marilyn Strickland at his monthly Good Eggs Breakfast on Wednesday in Federal Way.

“We can strengthen our region by working together through collaboration and keeping the dialogue open,” said von Reichbauer. “Mayor Strickland’s vision promoting economic development includes collaboration between state and city agencies finding a solution to help ease traffic congestion in the South Sound and recognizing the importance of transporting freight in a timely manner throughout our region.”

Strickland answered questions from the attendees and highlighted her thoughts on a solution involving extending Highway 167 and adding an HOV lane further south on I-5.

“The transportation issue is not only about traffic congestion, it is also a jobs issue and creating quality jobs in the South Sound region,” Strickland said.

She discussed being a strong advocate for education reform. She understands the importance of providing a stable, vibrant education for students and the challenges the school system currently faces. The partnership with the Gates Foundation and McCarver elementary school is a model for helping students increase their reading scores and school attendance. She knows a quality education system, along with quality jobs leads to growth and a stronger community.

Von Reichbauer hosts a breakfast each month for local political, business, and education leaders as a way to promote regional dialogue.
