There’s a sweet way to help Federal Way students.

The fifth annual Sweets for Success Dessert Benefit and Auction, hosted by AmeriCorps, is happening on Friday.

The event will run 6 to 9 p.m. at Todd Beamer High School, 35999 16th Ave. S.

All of the money raised goes toward helping students pay for extracurricular activities, including sports, arts, speech and debate and band.

“It’s our way of evening out the playing field for kids,” organizer Jackie Jamison said. “They’re not doing things that will get them in trouble. They’re connected to the community and positive role models.”

The evening will feature several performances by students as well as silent and live auctions.

AmeriCorps hopes to have about 300 people attend and hopes to raise about $10,000.

Last year’s event raised $9,000 and through the history of the event, AmeriCorps has raised $31,000 for local students.

“Any little bit is so much appreciated,” Jamison said.
