Suspect with gun prompts school lockdowns in Federal Way

Olympic View Elementary and Decatur High School were placed on lockdown Thursday morning after police activity in the general vicinity of the two schools.

Olympic View Elementary and Decatur High School were placed on lockdown Thursday morning after police activity in the general vicinity of the two schools.

According to the Federal Way Police Department, the lockdown was prompted when a 19-year-old male walking in the area of 2600 SW 327th Street was threatened by an 18-year-old male, who approached the victim in a vehicle and flashed a firearm at the victim.

Police report there is no known relationship between the victim and the suspect, but that the suspect has at least one previous arrest involving a firearm, and is known to FWPD.

Police went to the suspect’s home and attempted to contact him there, but the suspect was able to leave through a backdoor in his residence and got by the police perimeter that had been set up.

Police were able to locate the suspect shortly afterward. The victim gave a positive ID of the suspect, and the suspect was taken into custody.

Twin Lakes Elementary was also briefly placed on lockdown. The lockdowns at all three schools have since been lifted.
