UPDATE

Charges against Kareem Harris have been amended from second-degree attempted murder to first-degree attempted murder. Harris was arraigned and pleaded not guilty Jan. 21.

Harris is accused of shooting his ex-boss in Federal Way last October. After the shooting, Harris fled. He was apprehended in Florida on Dec. 28. Harris returns to court for a case setting hearing on Feb. 3 at the Norm Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent. He is being held on $1 million bail.

Second-degree attempted murder suspect Kareem Harris has been arrested and placed in jail.

Harris, 27, was apprehended in Miami Dec. 28 by the Miami-Dade County police. There were no local charges against him, aid Dan Donohoe, King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office spokesman. Harris was booked into King County jail at 10:28 p.m. Jan. 7. He is being held on $500,000 bail for the attempted murder of Federal Way resident Wilbur Gant. Harris will be arraigned Jan. 20.

At around 5:26 a.m. Oct. 28 near 127 S. 340th St., Harris shot Gant four times with the intent of killing him, according to court records. Gant and Harris formerly worked together at Milgard Windows in Fife, where Gant was in a supervisory role over Harris until the latter was fired in May for timecard fraud, according to the records.

Prior to the shooting, Gant gave a statement in an unemployment hearing for Harris, according to the same records. The two were involved in a dispute in front of Gant’s home about the statement and Gant’s involvement with Harris’ firing when the shooting took place.

Harris was charged days after the shooting but has been on the run since. Gant is recovering from his injuries.
