The following is a sample from the Federal Way police log:
Runaway girl suspected of joining gang: At 5:04 a.m. on Jan. 31 in the 35800 block of 18th Avenue Southwest, a mother reported her daughter had run away. She told police her daughter attended school on Monday but never returned home. Her daughter was on Facebook at approximately 9 p.m. that night, and she attempted to contact her daughter, but the juvenile immediately logged off. She doesn’t know where her daughter may have gone, but her stepson told her that the girl might be affiliated with a gang. The girl was last seen wearing a colored hooded sweatshirt and a blue and green backpack. Police entered the girl into a database as a runaway.
Metal knuckles brought to high school: At 12:30 p.m. on Jan. 31 at 35999 16th Ave. S., a dangerous weapon was found at Todd Beamer High School. Officers were notified that a suspect was found with metal knuckles on him. A teacher had witnessed the student with the knuckles. The student turned the weapon over to school security and received discipline and was sent home for the day.
Child molested: At 8:49 a.m. on Jan. 30 in the 3200 block of 19th Place South, the mother of a 7-year-old child reported that her daughter told her she was molested by her uncle.
Missing vet: At 4:58 p.m. on Jan. 30 in the 29000 block of Pacific Highway South, a man was reported missing after he didn’t return to the Multi-Services Center’s veterans housing.
Man burglarizes hospital: At 2:07 a.m. on Jan. 29 in the 34000 block of Ninth Avenue South, a suspect was caught on video inside St. Francis Hospital and was arrested and booked into SCORE Jail for commercial burglary.
Woman beaten to ground: At 12:06 a.m. on Jan. 28 in the 1900 block of South 289th Street, a female victim was thrown to the ground, beaten with a closed fist and her head was smashed to the ground repeatedly by a suspect. The victim said she feared for her life. The suspect called 911 and fled the scene before police arrived. Officers searched the victim’s home for the suspect, but no one was found.
Mother reports daughter’s sexual assault: At 6:16 p.m. on Jan. 28 in the 100 block of Southwest Campus Drive, the mother of a 13-year-old girl reported her daughter had been sexually assaulted by a 21-year-old man. She told officers the assault had occurred over the last few months with her unaware.
Person sneaks through elementary school window: At 6 a.m. on Jan. 27 at Mark Twain Elementary, an unknown person entered a room through an unsecured window. It is unknown if anything was taken.
A surprising text message: At 8:18 a.m. on Jan. 27 in the 2400 block of South Star Lake Road, a woman called police to report a male had sent her inappropriate and sexually explicit text messages of his genitalia. The reporting party said she was concerned and wanted to document the incident. Police could not get any further information on the suspect.
Urn found on BPA trail, returned: At 2:56 p.m. on Jan. 27 in the 1500 block of Southwest 356th Street, police found a bag containing miscellaneous papers and an urn on the BPA trail. The officer found a name and address on the papers and contacted a woman. She told police she was the victim of a burglary the previous day in Tacoma. She picked up the papers and urn the next day at the station.
Man steals sex toy: At 6:49 p.m. on Jan. 27 in the 1400 block of South 348th Street, multiple people entered Lovers, and one of the males stole a sex toy by concealing it and leaving the store. Another male acted like he was going to pay for some items but left midway through the transaction without paying or taking anything. Police checked the areas for the suspects but could not locate them. Employees said they would send police security footage.
Student suspects found at home after suspcious comments: At 8 a.m. on Jan. 26 in the 4200 block of South 288th Street, school administrators at Thomas Jefferson High School became concerned after learning of comments made on social media by four juvenile students. Administrators stated the students usually only come to school for lunch and are “defiant and mostly skip classes all day.” Officials located the students, who all said they didn’t make any comments, and one of the students was actually the victim of an assault, which he reported to police. All four students were escorted to the school where they were checked for weapons and contraband, which they didn’t have. School administrators later disciplined them.
Abandoned golf cart found: At 8:59 a.m. on Jan. 26 in the 1500 block of Southwest 321st Street, a person found an unattended golf cart with graffiti written on it on the side of a curb and called police. Police found a Retreat At Maple Hills business card inside the cart and called the number. Management of the retreat said it was theirs and that it was stolen at about 8 p.m. the previous day. Police closed the case after no witnesses or suspect information became available.
Student threatens to kill school administration, teacher: At 12:55 p.m. on Jan. 26 in the 35000 block of 16th Avenue South, a student was removed from class at Todd Beamer High School because he had left campus without permission earlier that day. Once in the office, a witness said the student had put a bullet in his mouth. The student didn’t follow directions and told the teacher and school resource officer that someone was going to get killed.
Boy bites girl at Thomas Jefferson: At 1 p.m. on Jan. 26 in the 4200 block of South 288th Street, a boy bit and strangled a girl in front of other juvenile witnesses during their lunch break at Thomas Jefferson High School. The victim had minor scratches from the bite but not visible injury to her neck. She declined medical attention, and the suspect was contacted at his home after he ran from the school.
Panhandler caught with warrant: At 3:51 p.m. on Jan. 26 in the 34000 block of Enchanted Parkway South, a police officer arrested a man on an Auburn trespassing warrant after seeing him panhandling on a road median, “causing a traffic hazard.” The man was booked into SCORE jail.
Pharmacy robbed: At 6:47 p.m. on Jan. 26 in the 31260 block of Pacific Highway South, employees at Highland Pharmacy reported an armed robbery.
