The Federal Way Community Caregiving Network (FWCCN) held its 14th annual fun-filled Souper Supper fundraiser Oct. 24 at Steel Lake Presbyterian Church. Local restaurants and caterers donated many varieties of soup.

Pastor Joe Bowman of Integrity for Life Church emceed the event. Proceeds support its Meals and Emergency Services Programs that help low-income families stay in their homes and maintain a healthy and stable environment at a time of crisis. They also help with limited motel stays, rent, food, gas, and bus tickets.

On Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, people find support and friendship at their three community meal locations.

The evening was an eye-opening one for all who attended. Richard LeMieux, author of “Breakfast at Sally’s” and once homeless himself, spoke of his downward spiral from wealth to becoming penniless and hitting rock bottom. Erin Jones, Director of Equity and Achievement for Federal Way Public Schools, gave some honest, bare facts of being homeless that captured the audience’s attention, according to event organizers.

This year, 312 people attended the fundraiser. The non-profit network raised $26,500, thanks to generous donors and sponsors, to further its cause. Donations may be sent to FWCCN, P.O. Box 4717, Federal Way, WA 98063. Tax ID number: 94-3105476.
