Soroptimist club celebrates Flag Day

The Federal Way Soroptimist branch celebrated their 34th Flag Day on June 17 at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center.

Scouts from Troop 361 and Troop 307 presented the colors, with the Federal Way Chorale singing the Star-Spangled Banner and God Bless America, according to Bruce Honda and the Soroptimists.

The speakers included veteran and researcher Melissa Swain, who won the organization’s “Live Your Dream” award this year; fellow veteran and local school board president Trudy Davis; Congressman Adam Smith; Federal Wy Mayor Jim Ferrell; and Bob Darrigan, who performed original poetry.
