Shari Song announced her candidacy for the Washington state Senate in the 30th District, joining Republican Mark Miloscia and fellow Democrat Roger Flygare in the race.

“I want to continue my community service by working for the values we all care about – educating our children, protecting our seniors and honoring our veterans,” Song said in a press release. “In Olympia, I’ll fight for jobs and a stronger economy, improvements to our transportation system and bolstering women’s rights.”

According to Song’s campaign, she has some notable backers already, including long-time state legislator Sen. Tracey Eide, State House Speaker Frank Chopp and Federal Way City Councilmember Dini Duclos.

Song has already earned the endorsement of state Senator and Democratic Caucus Leader Sharon K. Nelson, who said that Song “is a strong candidate for the 30th District Senate seat and I am very pleased she is running to replace Senator Tracey Eide. She will be a strong voice for women, working families and small businesses in our community.”

Song and her family have lived in the area since the mid-80’s, and raised their two sons here in Federal Way, according to the press release. While they’ve moved around the Puget Sound area in the time since, a need to be close to her husband’s elderly parents has them back in Federal Way and back in the 30th District.
