The Washington State Patrol reports that a drunk driver traveled for more than 10 miles on Interstate 5 with a missing tire.
The driver of a Chevrolet pickup truck struck a barrier in Pierce County shortly before 11 a.m. Sunday, April 24, while traveling north on I-5. Witnesses from the Federal Way area had reported seeing the truck traveling at high speeds with a missing front tire.
A state trooper stopped the truck off the South 200th Street exit, according to a WSP spokeswoman. The driver then took off, drove to a gas station on Military Road and was arrested under suspicion of DUI. The driver, who is from Savannah, Ga., said he had a lot to drink and thought he had struck a barrier in Tacoma, according to the state patrol. The driver was released to his commanding officer at Joint Base Lewis-McChord after breath tests revealed BAC levels of .184 and .183, according to the state patrol.
The right side of the pickup had recent damage and the right front tire was completely ground down to the lug nuts, the report said.
