Sacajawea Middle School and Todd Beamer High School were placed on lockdown Tuesday morning after a parent’s alleged threat of violence.

According to the school district, Federal Way police were contacted about a non-custodial parent who indicated he would pick up one of his children from school — either at Sacajawea or Todd Beamer, where his children attend — and would use force if he needed to. Police notified the school district and sent additional officers to both schools.

The lockdowns were lifted at 11:16 a.m., according to the school district.

The threat stemmed from a domestic protection order that was served by Federal Way police on the parent, according to police spokeswoman Cathy Schrock. The mother notified police that the father had called to say he was going to school to pick up one of the children, but was not specific on which child.

When the mother told the father that he could not take the child, he implied that he had a handgun and would have a “shootout with police,” thus prompting the lockdowns. Schrock said police are investigating the father.
