Federal Way Police Department Chief Andy Hwang kicked off the council meeting, introducing seven officers, who are both entry-level and experienced lateral transfer police officers currently in the field training program. Mayor Jim Ferrell then administered the oath of office, welcoming the new officers.

Hwang said the department currently has 144 hired police officers.
