Senior commission to host first-ever Health and Resource Fair

Federal Way Senior Advisory Commission’s resource fair is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, May 11.

The Federal Way Senior Advisory Commission is hosting its first-ever Health and Resource Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, May 11 at the Performing Arts and Event Center. The resource fair is free and open to all community members.

In 2020, the nine-member commission published a comprehensive pamphlet — the Senior Resource Guide for Greater Federal Way — featuring various resources in Federal Way and immediate surrounding areas.

“This is like a living, breathing pamphlet,” said Catherine North, one of the original commissioners on the Federal Way Senior Advisory Commission, of the upcoming resource fair.

Approximately 46 vendors will be available for attendees. The diverse range of organizations include the Korean Women’s Association, South King Tool Library, the Federal Way Senior Center, Gen Care, Village Green, El Centro de la Raza, Comfort Keepers and many others.

“There’s also a lot of seniors who live vital, enriched lives and we’re trying to include the whole gamut,” North said. “That’s what our community looks like … Our community is a diverse bunch of people.”

The fair is sponsored by Affinity Senior Transitions, Humana, Life Point Law, Multi-Service Center, Virginia Mason Franciscan Medical and Steel Lake Presbyterian Church.

The fair is intended for seniors, however, all community members of the greater Federal Way area are welcome. Modeled similarly to the Auburn Senior Wellness Fair, the Federal Way senior event fills the need of providing a one-stop information hub.

“Hopefully we can cover a lot of that [at the fair], where if people have questions one of the vendors can answer it for them,” North said.

The Performing Arts and Event Center (PAEC) is at 31510 Pete von Reichbauer Way S. in Federal Way.
