Reach Out, the city’s only men’s overnight homeless shelter, opened its doors Nov. 2 for a second winter in operation. Steel Lake Presbyterian, 1829 S. 308th St., will shelter the men through December.

Calvary Lutheran Church, 2415 S. 320th St., will host the men in January and February.

The men will be screened upon admission and supervised overnight. They will be admitted around 9 p.m. and fed dinner. They will also be fed breakfast the following morning before the shelter closes for the day for church use. A case manager will also be available to assist the men in finding housing, jobs and receiving veterans benefits, if applicable.

Organizers are attempting to raise enough funding to keep the shelter open through March. If the money is gathered, either Steel Lake Presbyterian or Calvary Lutheran Church will again host the men.

Author to share inspirational story

Richard LeMieux, who wrote “Breakfast at Sally’s,” will share his story about spending two years being homeless on the streets of Bremerton. Beginning at 10 a.m. Nov. 7 at the Calvary Lutheran Church, 2415 S. 320th St. in Federal Way, residents will hear how someone can be on top of the world with a thriving business, then plummet to begging for money in front of a grocery store. This is a fundraising event for Reach Out Men’s Shelter of Federal Way. Donations will be accepted and $5 of all book sales go to the Reach Out Program.
