Public invited to view design renderings for former AMC Theatres site development

The City will hold an open house from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. June 1 where architectural renderings for the downtown mixed-use development planned for the former AMC Theatres site will be displayed. The city council is considering replacing the Canadian developer, United Properties, which proposed, in 2007, purchasing the site and building four towers, with a local development group, Twin Development LLC.

If this occurs, a purchase and sale agreement will be drawn up with Twin Development and the council will work with the company to finalize design concepts.

However, the developer is willing to make public its currently proposed design renderings. The design includes three towers, two at 45 stories and one at 35 stories. A 1-acre park will also be included. Representatives from Twin Development and the City of Federal Way will be on hand to answer questions.

The open house will take place at City Hall in council chambers, 33325 8th Ave. S. A second open house may take place if the first is not well attended. That would happen June 15. Further public notice will be given if needed.

The public is invited to submit comments about the design at the open house or by e-mail, phone or mail. Contact Patrick Doherty at (253) 835-2612, patrick.doherty@cityoffederalway.com or P.O. Box 9718, Federal Way, Wa 98003-9718.
