From staff reports:
Puget Sound Energy (PSE) is visiting homes in King and Pierce counties from now until June 30, in an attempt to help people get rid of their “energy guzzling” old refrigerators.
According to PSE, the new units will be up to four times as efficient and can save customers more than $200 a year in energy costs. PSE is encouraging those interested to call and/or sign up early, because quantities of new fridges are limited.
Customers will get a new fridge of the same cubic feet as the customers’ current model. The new fridges will be a “basic, white, single-door, top-freezer model” that are “quieter…and frost free.” For customers who qualify, PSE will also take care of the disposal of the old refrigerators.
To qualify, the old refrigerators must be manufactured in or before 1992, in working condition, between 10-30 cubic feet, the primary food storage in the kitchen, and plugged into a properly grounded (3-prong) outlet.
PSE customers who live in a single-family home with four or less attached units can apply at pse.com/ApplianceReplacement or call (877) 341-2314 to learn if they qualify and to schedule delivery of the new fridge, while supplies last.
Those in multi-family buildings are encouraged to have their landlord, property manager or property owner contact PSE’s multifamily program at (855) 291-9574.
