Thousands of cars honked their support to the police, state troopers and fire personnel, who along with the public, lined the overpasses in Federal Way to pay their respects to the fallen Pierce County Deputy Kent Mundell.
Mundell’s body was being transported from Harborview Medical Center, where he passed away Monday night after being taken off life support. Mundell and his partner, Sgt. Nick Hausner, were shot by David E. Crable last week. Hausner survived. Mundell’s body was on its way to Mountain View Funeral Home.
Between 30-40 local law enforcement and South King Fire and Rescue cars and rigs were lined up over the 317th Street and 320th Street overpasses at Interstate 5, lights flashing. In the half hour preceding the motorcade, thousands of cars and semis honked. A few dozen members of the public also came out in the freezing cold to stand at the overpass to watch and show support.
Mundell is the sixth Washington State police officer to be killed in the line of duty in the past two months. His funeral is scheduled for Jan. 5 at the Tacoma Dome.
