Primary election: Only 1 Federal Way City Council incumbent advances to general election

Early returns show Tran and Miller earn top spots for Pos. 4; Dovey and Seam for Pos. 6.

One Federal Way City Council incumbent held steady through the primary election while another likely will not advance to the general election, according to early election results on Aug. 3.

For Federal Way City Council Pos. 4, incumbent councilmember Hoang Tran and newcomer challenger Daniel Miller are poised to advance to the November election. Early returns on Tuesday night showed Miller winning with over 39% of the vote — 2,509 votes to Tran’s 2,317, according to King County Elections.

In Federal Way City Council Pos. 6, former mayor Jack Dovey and newcomer Renae Seam are in the lead. Dovey garnered 34% of votes, earning 2,184 votes to Seam’s 1,949 votes. Incumbent councilmember Martin Moore likely will not advance to the general election, earning 1,632 votes so far.

Candidates moving forward to the November election for the Federal Way School Board District 4 position are incumbent Trudy Davis with over 35% of the votes and Jim Storvick with 33% of votes.

For King County Council District 7, incumbent councilmember Pete von Reichbauer garnered over 55% of votes while Dominique Torgerson has earned 16% of the vote. Torgerson’s 2,905 votes are followed narrowly by Lydia Assefa-Dawson’s 2,828 votes.

So far, King County Elections has counted over 242,000 ballots. In Federal Way, voting turnout so far lingers at just over 12% with 6,672 ballots counted of the 53,449 registered voters.

Primary election results will be certified Aug. 17. The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 2.
