Federal Way police have arrested a 17-year-old male who they believe shot a woman in the parking lot at the Federal Way library on Monday night.
The suspect, who resides in the unincorporated Auburn area of King County east of Federal Way, was in possession of a handgun when he was arrested by Federal Way officers at approximately 9:35 a.m. on Tuesday, according to Commander Kurt Schwan.
Police responded to the shooting at 6:40 p.m., when a woman in her 20s was shot in the leg and sustained life-threatening injuries while she was inside a vehicle at the library on South 320th Street. She was transported to Harborview Medical Center for further treatment.
Schwan said it appears the altercation in the vehicle was the result of an alleged illegal drug transaction over marijuana.
Detectives are also investigating the possibility of whether last night’s shooting was related to a similar shooting last week on Thursday, Feb. 21 , when a man was also shot in his leg at a bus stop on 11th Avenue Southwest. That incident also involved illicit drug activity, Schwan said.
The suspect description in the Feb. 21 shooting is also similar to the 17-year-old suspect who was arrested on Tuesday.
