The following is a sample from the Federal Way police log:
Homeless camp cleanup: At 10:12 a.m. on April 26 in the 33600 block of 20th Avenue South, police responded to a property owner’s complaint that “transients” were trespassing and setting up camps on his/her property. Police found a tent that was unattended, as well as a large amount of trash near wetlands. Police will contact a city code compliance officer and surface water management for clean up.
Another camp cleanup: At 12:06 p.m. on April 25 in the 32800 block of Weyerhaeuser Way South, a person reported a possible homeless camp just west of North Lake. Police checked the woods along the lake and found an older, unattended camp. The person who called police said they would contact their landscape company for cleanup/removal of the camp and call police if they need someone trespassed from the property.
Student tries to fight peer: At 11:10 a.m. on April 24 at Harry Truman High School, a boy tried to assault another boy by jumping over a wall that separated them as the victim did his school work. School administrators told the victim to go to their office while school staff dealt with the suspect. Police officers responded and trespassed the suspect, who was also expelled. The victim declined to prosecute but was given information on how to get a protection order.
Woman admits to meth use: At 1:20 p.m. on April 24 in the 30400 block of Eighth Avenue Southwest, two women were arrested on a warrant and for driving with a suspended license. During interaction with police, one of the women asked an officer to get her purse. The officer found a glass pipe inside. Post-Miranda, one of the women admitted the pipe was hers and that she had it for methamphetamine use.
Suspicious burn brings CPS: At 1:21 p.m. on April 24 in the 1200 block of South 336th Street, officers responded to Kitts Corner Apartments to investigate a Child Protective Services referral. The CPS worker said she is investigating a possible child abuse case after the child’s school reported a suspicious burn on the upper right side of her chest the week prior.
Neglected toddler released to mother: At 2:12 p.m. on April 24 in the 3500 block of 16th Avenue South, a young child was found wandering near building A of Park 16 apartments. Management did not know the child, who was placed into protective custody and later released to his mother at Child Protective Service’s request.
Bald man steals from employee at hair salon: At 3:08 p.m. on April 23 at 1706 S. 320th St., a man with a shaved head walked into Supercuts and asked to use the restroom. He returned a minute later and quickly exited the business. The employee went to the employee break area and saw her purse was open and her wallet and iPhone missing. Inside the wallet was her identification card, credit and debit cards. Police do not have a lead on the suspect at this time.
Man trespassed for pooping in restaurant: At 3:10 p.m. on April 23 at Cafe Rio Mexican Grill, security reported a man was loitering at the restaurant. He was alarming customers and employees and had supposedly defecated on himself. The odor was “noxious and lingering in the dining area,” according to the police report. Police issued the suspect a no trespass order.
Man caught showering trespassed: At 5:41 p.m. on April 23 in the 32200 block of 11th Place South, a homeless man was trespassed from Celebration Park Apartments after he was caught showering in the cabana without permission. Police also discovered he had an active warrant from Milton, and he was taken to SCORE jail.
Woman found talking to herself: At 5:35 a.m. on April 22 in the 500 block of Southwest 356th Street, police responded to a domestic violence case at an abandoned house known for high drug use. A woman reported that a male had thrown her down to the ground and assaulted her. When officers arrived, however, they found the woman talking to herself, alone. Their investigation revealed no one was assaulted, and there was no proof a man had even been there.
Naked man near middle school: At 8:21 a.m. on April 22 in the 30000 block of 13th Avenue South, a male was arrested after he approached a victim’s residence naked. He ripped off the victim’s door bell CCTV camera and then fled toward Sacajawea Middle School, where he was arrested and detained. The victim declined to press charges, but the suspect was involuntarily committed for an evaluation because of his mental health and/or suspected drug use.
Gun suspected in Friday shooting found: At 10:40 p.m. on April 22 in the 2300 block of South 288th Place, a witness contacted police after finding a Magnum firearm. Once on scene, police photographed the weapon, unloaded it and took it to the station for booking into evidence. An officer said the gun may be related to a drive-by shooting that occurred on Friday as the vehicle pursuit traveled through the area the gun was found.
Man attempts to cut handicap parking sign: At 4:56 a.m. on April 21 in the 1500 block of South 328th Street, a police officer saw a vehicle illegally parked in a handicap spot. While the officer was writing the ticket he was about to give the driver, he saw the owner of the vehicle approach the handicap sign with an electric saw in an attempt to cut it off. He saw the officer, however, and approached the officer with the power tool. The officer detained the man. During a search, the officer found drug paraphernalia on the suspect.
Creepy follower scares children: At 9:42 a.m. on April 21 in the 32600 block of 47th Avenue Southwest, Green Gable Elementary staff reported a man appeared to be following students from the school. A female student said, as she was walking to school, the male was on the opposite side, walking in the same direction. He later started jogging, which made her and her brother nervous, so they ran the rest of the way to school. Two other staff members also saw the same male near Hoyt Road Southwest that morning, and he was seen getting on a bus with two other people.
Man found in bushes near spa: At 8:09 p.m. on April 21 at 2222 S. 314th St., officers responded to the parking lot of Gene Juarez for a welfare check on a man who was face down in the bushes. Officers determined he was intoxicated and that he had an active warrant from Fife. The man was booked into SCORE jail.
Man arrested for pointing gun near burger joint: At 9:23 p.m. on April 20 in the 32800 block of Pacific Highway South, police responded to reports of a male pointing a gun at two other people in the parking lot of Burger Express. Officers arrested the male on a weapons offense.
