From staff reports:
A water pipeline burst early Aug. 23, leaving approximately 20 Federal Way homes without water.
Some streets and driveways were temporarily flooded after a six-inch Lakehaven Utility District line broke at the corner of South 305th Street and 4th Avenue South. According to Lakehaven officials, water was freely flowing for approximately 30 minutes. The water receded without damaging any homes, and water service was restored by about 9:45 a.m., said John Bowman, general manager for Lakehaven.
While there wasn’t any damage to homes, Bowman did indicate the local street would need repair in the future.
“Most of the water was contained on the street, and there is some damage to the street that we’ll have to repair at a later date,” Bowman said.
Bowman said the cause of the break is unknown at this time, but gave one idea on what may have been the culprit.
“It may have been settlement. It’s a cement pipe, and settlement can do that,” he said. “We’re not sure what it was though, we just know it broke.”
