Mirror staff reports:

Hundreds of people attended the Federal Way Farmers Market’s 2013 summer season kickoff May 11 at The Commons Mall parking lot. In addition to warm weather, the day featured the Thomas Jefferson High School band in the opening ceremonies, along with a performance by Elvis entertainer Danny Vernon (SEE PHOTOS).

This year’s market includes more than 50 vendors along with plenty of fresh produce and fresh flowers from local farmers. Plenty of food was available such as buttered corn on the cob, Russian crepes, Mexican food, gourmet sausages, kettle corn and more.

The market will also host multiple charity events this season. Coming up on May 18 is the Advancing Leadership Class of 2013’s Break The Chains fundraiser, a 5K bike ride/walk/scoot to spread public awareness of human trafficking. The event starts at 10:15 a.m. Cost is $15 per individual and $30 for a family of two or more. Contact terih@federalwaychamber.com.

The Federal Way Farmers Market will be open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays through October. Vendors interested in participating at the farmers market are encouraged to contact Karla Kolibab at federalwayfarmersmarket@yahoo.com or (253) 261-8157.
