Peterson announces candidacy for Federal Way School Board

Danny Peterson has announced his candidacy for the Federal Way School Board.

Political newcomer Danny Peterson has announced his candidacy for the Federal Way School Board. Peterson will seek position 3 held by current board member Amye Bronson-Doherty, who has not yet declared whether she will run for re-election. Last month, Federal Way resident Carrie BeSerra announced her candidacy for position 3.

Peterson is a nine-year Federal Way resident and father of two young children. He graduated from  University of Washington with a bachelor’s degree in neurobiology and holds a master’s degree in teaching from Seattle Pacific University, according to a news release.

Peterson did his student teaching at Decatur High School and has taught throughout the Federal Way School District. He has traveled extensively in Latin America and Africa, working with with schools, churches and communities to develop health care resources and educational programs, according to a news release. He is a graduate of the Advancing Leadership program and holds a Washington state secondary teaching certificate. Filing deadline for candidates is June 6-10. The 2011 primary election is slated for Aug. 16, and the 2011 general election is Nov. 8.
