Residential arson: At about 4:30 a.m., a mother and her two daughters were awakened by banging sounds at their apartment’s front door near the 12500 block of Southwest Campus Drive. Shortly after, the door was set on fire and smoke spread into the apartment. No one was injured.
Carjacking: A car was stolen at gunpoint at approximately 2 a.m. near the 30800 block of 8th Avenue Southwest.
Sex offense: At approximately 5 p.m., a man exposed his genitals in public near the 34400 block of 1st Avenue South.
Jan. 4
There were at least 5 reports of vehicle theft or attempted vehicle theft on this day and 2 vehicles were recovered.
Candy thrown: A security guard called dispatch around 12:30 a.m. near the 32000 block of Pacific Highway South after a subject threw a bag of candy at him and refused to leave. The suspects were located and trespassed.
Refusing to leave vehicle: Officers were impounding two vehicles around 11 a.m. near the 1100 block of Southwest 308th Street when a man inside one of them refused to leave. After the individual finally exited the vehicle, officers arrested him for trying to leave when he was not free to leave.
Storage unit theft: A victim’s storage unit was broken into around 6 a.m. near the 33600 block of 21st Avenue Southwest. Several items were stolen.
Jan. 5
There were at least 2 reports of vehicle theft or attempted vehicle theft on this day and 2 vehicles were recovered.
Orange juice assault: At approximately 2:30 p.m., two individuals were in a verbal dispute over parking near the 1200 block of South 320th Street. An uninvolved passerby threw a bottle of orange juice through the reporting party’s vehicle window, striking her in the face.
Stolen vehicle stopped with spikes: A fleeing occupied stolen vehicle was apprehended with spikes on the road after striking another vehicle around 3:30 p.m. The vehicle was recovered nearby in the 34400 block of 21st Avenue Southwest.
Crisis line success: Officers responded to no less than six 911 calls during a 24-hour period from an individual who ultimately shared that he was lonely and needed someone to talk to. Officers suspected there might also be mental health issues present due to the topics shared and suggested he call the Crisis Line instead, which he was open to do. They haven’t received any calls from the individual since.
Sexual harassment: A worker at an auto parts store told officers that a male customer has been continually harassing her with sexual advances, calling her, texting her and waiting for her after work despite her clear requests to stop. Police shared information about how to trespass the individual and obtain a protection order.
Victim threatened at grocery store: A victim reported that an individual threatened to shoplift and to kill them with a gun, although a gun was not seen. Officers located the suspect outside sleeping in a car and used spike strips to attempt to stop the suspect from leaving, but they were ineffective, and officers were not able to pursue.
Jan. 6
There were at least 10 reports of vehicle theft or attempted vehicle theft on this day and 2 vehicles were recovered.
Drive-by shooting: At approximately 4:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to a shooting at a gas station near the 1600 block of Southwest Dash Point Road.
Attempted bicycle robbery: Two victims were riding their bikes at approximately 5 p.m. when an unknown suspect approached them, demanding their bicycle. The victim refused to give it to the suspect who then reached for a firearm hidden in their jacket. The victims fled, but the suspect chased them until they were able to enter the Federal Way 320th Library and call police.
Jan. 7

Suspicious chair: A victim reported that the window to her bedroom was broken, and she discovered a chair outside the window. The chair does not belong to her.
Street robbery: A victim was robbed at gunpoint of a phone, Nike shoes and a jacket around 2:20 a.m. The suspects fired off four shots as they fled from the scene in the 32800 block of 50th Place Southwest in a brown sedan.
Trespass: The fire department responded to a report of a fire at approximately 5 p.m. in a commercial building located near the 34900 block of Enchanted Parkway South. They found no fire, but did find evidence of a break-in, including a bed and clothing items. No one was located inside the building.
Jan. 8
There was at least 1 report of vehicle theft or attempted vehicle theft on this day and 2 vehicles were recovered.
Drive-through incident: Officers responded to an adult male slumped over in a vehicle with emergency flashers at approximately 7 a.m. near a drive-through line. Officers saw that the subject had a firearm tucked into their waistband and was unconscious. The suspect was then arrested without incident.
Kidnapping: A woman called 911 after being kidnapped and groped by a stranger at approximately 3 p.m.
Jan. 9
There were at least 2 reports of vehicle theft or attempted vehicle theft on this day and 2 vehicles were recovered.
Early evening DUI: Officers responded to a driver slumped over in her vehicle in the middle of the road at approximately 9 p.m. She was arrested for DUI.
Suspicion of internet sharing: A reporting party told officers that every time she disconnects her internet, her upstairs neighbor runs out to her balcony. She suspects that the neighbor is stealing her internet, causing her connection to run slowly. Her internet provider is investigating unusual activity on her account, but did not share what type of activity.
