The following is a sample from the Federal Way police log:
Maybe it was a food coma: At 9:45 a.m. on Dec. 27 in the 32000 block of Pacific Highway South, police were dispatched to Vince’s Italian Restaurant after staff found people sleeping in a car behind the building. The passenger admitted he had an active warrant out of Federal Way and was booked into SCORE Jail on the warrants. Both occupants of the vehicle were issued trespass warnings.
Woman has jewelry stolen: At 9:05 p.m. on Dec. 27 in the 2000 block of Southwest 315th Street, a victim returned home and found the lower level rear sliding door of her home broken and told officers several items were stolen from the master bedroom. Police located a partial fingerprint on rear sliding door handle and a walkie talkie that did not belong to the victim. Items were taken into evidence.
Not the motel they were looking for: At 1:04 a.m. on Dec. 26 in the 32000 block of 45th Place Southwest, officers made contact with a suspect sleeping in a laundry room. Police discovered the suspect had a $1,700 criminal trespass warrant. The warrant was confirmed, and the suspect was booked into SCORE Jail without incident.
Wrong place, wrong time: At 3:19 p.m. on Dec. 26 in the 100 block of Southwest Campus Drive, a victim reported at some point overnight someone keyed her parked vehicle, engraving an obscenity into the hood. The victim said she is not having any problems with anyone, and she did not have any suspects in mind. No video surveillance was found, and no suspects have developed.
Late night bowling gone wrong: At 1:43 p.m. on Dec. 25 in the 34000 block of Pacific Highway South, police responded to Secoma Lanes for a burglary report. The victim stated sometime between the hours of 3:30 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. a window was broken on the north side of the building. Officers determined no entry was made but the window sustained damage. The window is estimated to cost $1,500.
Too much holiday excitement: At 8:44 p.m. on Dec. 25 in the 34000 block of Second Lane South, police received multiple calls of sounds of illegal discharge coming from the area. Upon arrival, residents said the noise could have been related to fireworks coming from the elementary school. Officers checked the parking lot and located freshly burned remnants of fireworks on the ground. The person(s) who lit the fireworks was not located.
Burglar can’t see the light: At 3:05 p.m. on Dec. 24 at The Commons, a victim told police he parked his car near Applebees around noon. When he returned at about an hour and a half later, he discovered the passenger front door handle had been pried open and two flashlights had been stolen. The victim said the suspect(s) bypassed other, more expensive tools that were in the back section of the vehicle.
Shedding more light than he thought: At 2:37 a.m. on Dec. 23 in the 33000 block of Pacific Highway South, officers initially stopped a driver for operating a vehicle without headlights. The driver produced a Mexico license, and he came back with no record. A scanner was used to determine his identity, which did not match his Mexico license. The suspect was arrested for a harassment warrant out of Burien and making false statements to a law enforcement officer.
A workout and a prowler: At 9:15 a.m. on Dec. 23 in the 35000 block of Enchanted Parkway South, police were called to LA Fitness. A victim told officers she placed her purse in her vehicle and went inside to workout. Within 15 minutes, the victim was informed her car had been broken into via a broken window. The victim’s purse, wallet, cash, bank cards and documents were taken.
Crazy for Olive Garden: At 8:59 p.m. on Dec. 23 in the 35000 block of Enchanted Parkway South, witnesses reported a man acting erratically in the parking lot of Olive Garden. The reporting party said the male appeared high and was causing a disturbance. Officers were told the man was hitting cars in the parking lot with a rock and attempting to run in front of moving vehicles. Police detained the man without incident but found a small amount of methamphetamine in his possession. The man was placed on an involuntary mental evaluation at St. Francis.
No wonder they broke up: At 1:17 a.m. on Dec. 22 in the 2100 block of Southwest 339th Street, a woman called police after her ex-boyfriend contacted her because he needed to borrow $10 after she asked him for their child’s car seat and jacket. An argument ensued, and the woman said the man threatened to damage her vehicle. She said the former boyfriend showed up but did not damage her vehicle.
That’s no place to hide from police: At 9:40 a.m. on Dec. 22 in the 28000 block of Military Road South, officers were called after a suspect was reported in a Safeway bathroom for an extended period of time, and store employees called to have her removed. After a records check, the suspect turned up with an active warrant. The warrant was confirmed, and the suspect was booked into SCORE Jail.
Unsatisfied shopper to the max: At 9:41 a.m. on Dec. 22 in the 1200 block of South 320th Street, police received a call of a male suspect causing a disturbance inside Safeway. Officers witnessed the suspect standing outside the business. The manager asked that the suspect be trespassed off the property due to his disturbance. When officers asked the suspect for identification, he provided a false name. The male was placed into custody for providing false information. The suspect was booked into SCORE Jail on confirmed, outstanding warrants and criminal citation.
He works hard for the money: At 1:29 p.m. on Dec. 22 in the 2100 block of Southwest 336th Street, a witness called to report three males were inside a local bank causing a disturbance because the bank was unable to cash one of the male’s third-party checks. Officers made contact with the suspect after finding him sitting inside a white Ford sedan. The suspects told police they were being targeted for the color of their skin. All of the men were trespassed from the property.
Not on the menu: At 9:18 a.m. on Dec. 21 in the 27000 block of Pacific Highway South, police responded to a call from McDonald’s management. A manager reported three suspects were doing drugs in the restroom. The manager said all three left in a black Toyota Camry. Officers located the car on the south side of McDonalds. One passenger initially provided a fake name and was detained in handcuffs without incident and was transported and booked into SCORE Jail.
Offender has change of heart: At 9:39 a.m. on Dec. 21 in the 33000 block of Eighth Avenue South, a suspect arrived at the Federal Way Police Station to surrender his firearms as requested by an outstanding court order. The officer on duty took custody of all firearms and booked them into evidence for safekeeping.
Not her grandson: At 10:49 a.m. on Dec. 21 in the 30000 block of 16th Avenue Southwest, a victim called police to report a suspicious attempt to collect money by an unknown male suspect. The victim said she received another phone call by someone posing as her grandson. She told officers the man asked for money, claiming he got into a vehicle collision, but she did not send money.
How not to shop for presents: At 3:02 p.m. on Dec. 21 in the 1900 block of South 320th Street, a suspect entered TJ Maxx with two wire cutter devices with the intent to steal. The suspect cut the security devices from a purse and a back pack, then concealed these items down his pants and entered the men’s bathroom and flushed the devices down the toilet. Store employees called police, and the suspect was arrested.
