King County Water District 54 confirmed E. coli bacteria in their water supply on June 16. The contamination affects the north Des Moines and Normandy Park communities. King County Water District released a “Boil Water Advisory,” which was still not cleared as of June 20.
Although Lakehaven Water & Sewer District has customers in part of south Des Moines, General Manager John Bowman confirmed on June 20 that their water is not contaminated.
He cited that because Lakehaven Water is fully chlorinated and the chlorine residual is tested on a regular basis, E. coli is not a worry.
The King County Water District #54 said in a news release that one of the weekly samples returned with E. coli present on June 16. The district is testing frequently until the issue is resolved, according to the news release.
