More than $100,000 in police equipment stolen | Federal Way Police Blotter

Following is a sample from the Federal Way police log from July 17-25.

July 17

There were at least 15 reports of vehicle theft or attempted vehicle theft on this day.

Strong-arm robbery: A woman’s purse was snatched by a man around 8:30 p.m. in the 31200 block of Pacific Highway S. The suspect fled in a black Mercedes. The victim sustained minor injuries.

Refrigerator defrigerated: Police were dispatched to the 35700 block of 16th Ave S where someone had set a refrigerator ablaze.

July 18

There were at least 10 reports of vehicle theft or attempted vehicle theft on this day.

Burglary: A public storage unit in the 2000 block of SW 356th Street was reportedly burglarized for about $25,000.

July 19

There were at least 8 reports of vehicle theft or attempted vehicle theft on this day.

Stabbing: An officer reported to St. Francis Hospital to get information on a stabbing victim.

July 20

There were at least 4 reports of vehicle theft or attempted vehicle theft on this day.

Mailbox explosive: A caller in the 1900 block of SW 331st Place reported someone in a black Mercedes sedan put a firework-type explosive in his mailbox, which damaged the mailbox when it went off.

Strong-arm robbery: A woman reportedly snatched another woman’s purse around 1:07 p.m. at the Federal Way Costco, then fled in a red Expedition. The victim suffered minor injuries from the robbery.

Bus stop shooting: Officers reported to a shooting in the 27300 block of Pacific Highway S at a Metro bus stop around 6:30 a.m. The victim was in an altercation with another man who shot him 4 to 5 times in the abdomen and then fled. The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center.

July 21

There were at least 5 reports of vehicle theft or attempted vehicle theft on this day.

Gun pointing: An officer arrested a person suspected a pointing a firearm at another person minutes after midnight while in traffic in the area of 288th Street and Pacific Highway S.

Bank ATM damaged: Officers responded to a commercial alarm in the 32300 block of Pacific Highway S around 3:42 p.m.. They observed a black SUV flee quickly with no lights, and found an ATM at the bank damaged.

SWAT, hostage teams deployed: Police responded to the 1900 block of SW 322nd Place that afternoon, where a female victim said a family member had threatened to assault and kill her. Officers tried to contact the suspect and eventually called out SWAT operators. Flash bangs were used, and hostage negotiators eventually talked the man out of the apartment, where he was arrested without further incident.

Firearm assault: Officers responded in the late morning to the 3000 block of S 288th Street to reports that a man pointed a gun at another man. The suspect had fled in an unknown vehicle before police arrived.

$100,000+ of police equipment stolen: Police responded to a theft from a vehicle that took place overnight at the 31900 block of Gateway Center Boulevard in which approximately $125,600 of law enforcement equipment was stolen.

Man fights off knife-wielding robber: Police responded that morning to the 1100 block of S 322nd Place where a man had fought off a suspect who was trying to take his vehicle while armed with a knife. No injuries were reported, and police booked the suspect and his knife.

July 22

There were at least 9 reports of vehicle theft or attempted vehicle theft on this day.

Commitment: Officers were called out to a welfare check in the 33700 block of 31st Ave SW and involuntarily committed a juvenile male who had assaulted his caretaker and attempted to assault officers as well.

July 23

There were at least 8 reports of vehicle theft or attempted vehicle theft on this day.

Assault with a firearm: Police responded to a call at about 2:20 p.m. at the Enchanted Parkway Costco for a reported threat with a gun. The victim said a shoplifter pointed a gun at him when he asked to see her receipt. Police detained the woman nearby, executed a search warrant on her vehicle and booked her into jail.

Shooting: Officers responded around 12:35 p.m. to the 2400 block of S 273rd Place to reports of a weapons threat. The caller said two men were fighting in a parking lot over money, and that one man eventually pulled out a gun and shot the other. Officers did not find the fired cartridge or other physical evidence on scene of the shooting.

Threats to kill: A person contacted by police over threats to kill reiterated to officers that he intended to kill the victim, and that the victim was “lucky to be alive.” The suspect did not specify to police precisely how he would kill the victim, but continued talking about doing so as police took him into custody. He was found to have no weapons except for a pair of scissors.

July 24

There were at least 13 reports of vehicle theft or attempted vehicle theft on this day.

Burglary: The owner of a business in the 1100 block of S 348th Street arrived to work to find someone had forced his way into the store, stolen items and fled in a truck early that morning.

Burglary: A burglary in the 35800 block of 16th Avenue S reportedly resulted in $4500 of damage, $50 stolen in cash and $384.26 fraudulently spent on a stolen Lowe’s credit card.

Lighter fluid incidents: Police responded to two incidents involving men pouring lighter fluid on objects; the first involved a man in the 1900 block of S 314th street pouring the fuel on a bandana at the Walmart loading dock around 7 or 7:30 a.m. Several hours later, they arrested a man who was pouring lighter fluid on wood pallets in the 1800 block of S 316th street.

July 25

There were at least 11 reports of vehicle theft or attempted vehicle theft on this day.

Housing scam: A person looking online for a rental property was scammed over email into wiring $2,450 for what they were told was a down payment for first month’s rent.
