Representatives of SRG Partnership, the architectural firm tasked with the redesign of Federal Way High School (FWHS), will be available to the public again from noon to 7 p.m. Aug. 23.

The Meet and Greet will be held at the district’s Support Services Center, 1211 S. 332nd St., just south of Celebration Park.

The intent of the Meet and Greet is to ensure that the community’s voices are heard regarding what they’d like to see in the new Federal Way High School.

A few questions the district asked residents in an official press release included:’

• What kind of learning spaces will students need?

• What kind of technology will teachers use in five, 25 or 50 years?

• Should the building be closer to Pacific Highway, or farther back on the campus?

• Should it be one story, or two?

• How can the community create a school that’s ready for the 21st century, but also holds on to the proud traditions of FWHS that have accumulated over the last several decades?

Federal Way voters will be asked to approve a $60 million capital projects levy in November for the rebuild/redesign of Federal Way High School. Money from that levy will also be used to upgrade playground equipment throughout the district, and also standardize the district’s security camera systems.

Voters rejected the district’s first attempt to get the levy approved in February, with approximately 55 percent of local voters saying no to the proposed project.

The total cost of the project for rebuilding FWHS is expected to be $110 million, with the district picking up $50 million of that cost through savings it accrued in recent years.
