The Washington Aerospace Scholars Program provides opportunities for high school students interested in science, technology, engineering and math.

Several students from Federal Way are participating in phase one of the program at The Museum of Flight in Seattle: Victoria Zellerhoff of Decatur High School; Nicholas Rollolazo and Isaac Wani of Federal Way High School; Michaela Hougland, Jennifer Yi, Chloe Choe, Ryan Lee, Bailey Bonaci, James Kim and Leo Smith of Thomas Jefferson High School.

287 talented juniors from across the state were accepted into the fifth year of Washington Aerospace Scholars (WAS), a distance learning program with a NASA-designed curriculum covering the history of space exploration, the space shuttle, the International Space Station, the moon and Mars.

From January through May, the scholars will complete 10 lessons. Up to 160 of the top performing scholars will be invited to an all-expenses paid summer residency at The Museum of Flight in Seattle. Scholars will then have the opportunity to work with professional engineers and scientists on the design of a human mission to Mars.
