Mirror staff reports:
A man shot himself Friday night in front of a Federal Way restaurant.
At 9:07 p.m. April 5, Federal Way police were dispatched to reports of a suicidal male at The Ram restaurant, 31920 Gateway Center Blvd. A friend of the male had reported that she was receiving text messages from him, and that he was known to carry a gun.
As officers arrived, the 35-year-old male stepped outside the front doors of the business, placed a firearm to his head and discharged the weapon, according to police.
Officers and South King Fire personnel administered aid on the scene. The male was transported to Harborview Medical Center where he was reported brain dead, according to police. His name has not been released.
Police officers were sent to the male’s address to check on the welfare of his grandmother, who was found alive and well.
A restaurant patron from Steilacoom said her father was outside smoking when he overheard two men talking. A friend was trying to pacify the male, asking if he was OK, before the shot was fired. Customers were kept inside until the scene cleared, and the restaurant closed for the night.
