Following is a sample from the Federal Way police log:
Shoplifter: At 1:20 a.m. on Jan. 20 in the 34000 block of 16th Ave. S., employees of a grocery/department store reported a woman had walked out of the store with a cart full of items without paying. According to the report, the woman had told employees that the items were all return items. The woman was able to exit the store and enter a waiting vehicle. Police were not able to locate the suspect or the vehicle.
Robbery: At 2:46 a.m. on Jan. 19 in the 1900 block of S. Commons, a man reported he had been robbed of $800 by unknown suspects.
Firearm stolen: At 10:45 a.m. on Jan. 20 in the 30000 block of First Ave. SW, a man reported that his firearm had been stolen from his vehicle. According to the report, the firearm was stolen while the man was at his doctor’s office for an appointment.
Online fraud: At 11:45 a.m. on Jan. 14 in the 1900 block of SW 354th St., a woman reported that she had been defrauded by a man who she had only ever interacted with online. According to the report, the man claimed to be a general contractor, and had persuaded the woman to give him money for one of his projects.
Warrants catch up to man not wearing a bicycle helmet: At 12:05 p.m. on Jan. 20 in the 31000 block of Pacific Highway S., a patrolling officer made contact with a man riding a bicycle and not wearing a helmet. According to the report, a records check of the man revealed an active warrant. The man was arrested without incident, the report notes.
Rings stolen: At 3:17 p.m. on Jan. 20 in the 400 block of S. 338th St., unknown suspects stole rings valued at $5,000 from an adult care home resident.
Shoes stolen: At 8:06 p.m. on Jan. 20 in the 34000 block of Enchanted Parkway S., a man reported that two pairs of shoes he had bought were stolen by unknown suspects from his vehicle. According to the report, the man had just bought the shoes from a private seller and left the shoes in his vehicle when he went to grab some food. By the time he returned, the shoes were stolen. The report notes the victim didn’t believe the original seller was responsible for the theft.
Care home resident assaults another resident: At 12:11 p.m. on Jan. 19 in the 31000 block of 23rd Ave. S., a resident of a care home assaulted another resident. According to the report, both the victim and the suspect have severe Alzheimer’s. The report notes police referred the issue back to the facility because the suspect could not be charged with a crime because the suspect “could not form the element of knowledge.”
Mailboxes damaged: At 1:03 p.m. on Jan. 19 in the 30000 block of 10th Ave. SW, the victim reported that their two mailboxes had been damaged by unknown suspects. According to the report, it’s believed the suspects placed M80 fireworks in the mailboxes and set them off.
