A 45-year-old man was fatally shot Wednesday morning in a case police say stemmed from a domestic violence situation.
The shooting occurred in a neighborhood about half a mile north of Mirror Lake. A 22-year-old man, the suspected shooter, has been detained, according to the Federal Way Police Department, but “it is yet to be determined which of the involved parties is the suspect and which is the victim,” Cmdr. Kurt Schwan said in an email.
The 22-year old was taken to the police department and is cooperating with the investigation.
Police say there is no threat to the community stemming from the incident, and all parties involved in it are related, Schwan said. Detectives are conferring with county prosecutors, Schwan said.
According to police, around 7:30 a.m. in the 200 block of SW 305th Street, officers responded to reports of a shooting. They found the 45-year-old in the backyard of a residence with apparent gunshot wounds. They rendered aid until relieved by fire and medic personnel, but the man was pronounced dead shortly after.
The shooting is the first known homicide of 2023 for Federal Way, Schwan confirmed.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
