One man is dead after crashing into a tree along State Route 18 in Federal Way early Monday morning.

The 22-year-old man from Des Moines died at the scene. His identity has not yet been released.

Around 2:23 a.m. April 4, the man was traveling westbound on State Route 18 approaching Weyerhaeuser Way, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The man lost control of the vehicle, struck a tree, and landed in an embankment off the road.

State patrol concluded the cause of the crash was wet roadway conditions. Drugs or alcohol were also factors involved, according to WSP.

The man was wearing his seatbelt.
