Representatives from several King County-area fire departments were on hand Saturday morning to welcome Port of Seattle Fire Captain Stephanie McGinnis and her husband, South King Fire and Rescue firefighter Merrick McGinnis as they arrived at the Statue of Liberty at Alki Beach in West Seattle. They had just completed a cross-country journey on bicycle for charitable causes.
“Stephanie and Merrick have been on a once-in-a-lifetime journey this past month and a half—a bucket list adventure that few get a chance to complete,” said Port of Seattle Fire Chief Randy Krause. “This is a selfless act for a great cause and I am excited to welcome them home and hear about their amazing trip.”
Their 3,200 mile trip began in Boston, Massachusetts on Sept. 1, and raised money for the Washington State Association of Firefighters Burn Foundation, the Seattle Brain Cancer Walk, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, the Northwest Parkinson’s Foundation, and the Evergreen chapter of the ALS Association.
