State Sen. Pam Roach (R-Sumner) sponsored a bill to mandate cursive as part of the Washington state curriculum. Some teachers support her argument about the importance of cursive for everyday use in the classroom, as well as its importance for brain development, signatures and test-taking. Interestingly, Roach has noted, high schoolers who wrote in cursive on the SAT essay have scored slightly higher than those who printed.
