For the sixth year, Thornton F. McElroy Masonic Lodge in Federal Way has partnered with Lake Grove Elementary School and the Grand Lodge of Washington to provide reading rewards through the “Bike for Books” program.

Two bikes were contributed by the Lodge and two more were donated by the “Sons of Hiram” Masonic Club. Heather Washington, school counselor, said the bikes are an extra incentive for the students to challenge themselves with the number of books they read.

About 30 percent of the students participate in the Accelerated Readers program at Lake Grove; those receiving bikes were selected from that program.

The recipients are Delany D.C., Alixzander W., Paradise G. and Caleb S.

The Masonic Lodge intends to continue the program next year. To learn more, email the lodge at tfm302@q.com.
