King County Executive Dow Constantine spent Nov. 13 with Superintendent Sally McLean touring and learning about Federal Way Public Schools.

After a meeting and lunch with McLean and staff, Todd Beamer High School was first on the list.

Constantine met with students in the Stay-in-School Program, a program dedicated to assisting at-risk students with graduating on time. He talked with them about their future plans and what they are learning in the program. Students remarked on learning life skills, such as banking, applying for jobs and shared some of their excitement about new jobs and talked about self presentation on social media.

Later, Constantine was greeted at Camelot Elementary by Principal Cindy Dracobly. He visited a science classroom, where he learned about students’ work in hands-on science and its real world application, while synthesizing arguments for and against the plastic bag ban in Seattle.

Constantine also toured the community garden, Highly Capable program and preschool at Camelot.
