Even with Federal Way Regional Library closed for renovations, the 320th library is running in full gear — preparing for the summer reading program as well as other activities for youth in the area.

The summer reading program theme is “Be Creative.” Kids can sign up for the program and start a summer reading log beginning June 15. You can register either online at www.kcls.org/srp or in person at either the 320th library, or the temporary library in The Commons mall.

The summer will be full of fun programs, the first of which is June 23 with a concert by the band “Recess Monkey” at The Commons mall in Federal Way. All but four of the programs will take place at the 320th library, 848 S. 320th St., most of which will be performed twice in a day to accommodate all the extra patrons.

You can pick up a schedule of the events from either Federal Way library locations. Middle school and high school students can also sign up for the summer edition of “read three get one free” and be entered into monthly drawings for gift cards, as well as a grand prize drawing at the end of the summer for a free laptop computer.

Also, for older kids there is “Game On,” with free video gaming and snacks from 4 to 5:30 p.m. every third and fourth Thursday of the month from at the 320th library.

The Federal Way 320th Library expects a high turnout for these events due to the temporary closure of the Federal Way Regional Library. On the day of each program, residents can pick up free tickets.
