Federal Way real estate broker and Slavic community advocate Anthony Kalchik announced that he will run for District 30 State Representative position 2. The position was recently vacated by Skip Priest, who will run for mayor of Federal Way.
Kalchik is the sixth candidate and fourth Republican to seek the open House seat. Other candidates are charity co-founder Carol Gregory (a Democrat who lost to Priest in 2008), Milton Mayor Katrina Asay, local businessman Roger Flygare (Democrat), Federal Way School Board member Ed Barney and unincorporated King County activist Jerry Galland. The filing deadline is June 11.
In 2006, Kalchik lost to State Rep. Mark Miloscia for position 1 in his first bid for public office. Kalchik, 54, decided to run because of the economic crises and the Legislature’s continual cuts to education, recent tax increases and disregard for voters with the repeal of I-960, according to a campaign statement.
“We’ve run a campaign in the 30th District before and we have everything we need to run another campaign,” said campaign manager Paul Kalchik.
